For all of the green thumbs out there, it’s your time to thrive! Now that warmer spring temperatures are here to stay, spend your free time getting your yard back in shape. Just remember to keep water conservation in the back of your mind this season and know that water-wise gardening will help you save water and money. See the tips below to find out how you can save BIG this spring:
Not all plants are alike - when it comes to their watering needs, that is. When designing your garden, group plants with similar watering needs together. This way, you can avoid overwatering some plants while underwatering others.
Pay close attention to the weather. Whether you have an inground sprinkler system or water your yard by hand, know that you can avoid watering on days when the forecast calls for rain.
Another great way to cut down on water usage is to direct rain from gutters and your HVAC system to areas of the lawn or garden that require water frequently.
Check all garden hoses and sprinkler systems for leaks. Make sure hose bibs are working properly and that there are no leaks in the pipes supplying water to the outside of your home.
Rinsing fruits or vegetables before you eat? Place a bucket or watering can underneath to collect the water and then use it to water plants.
