A.O Smith Recalls Residential Water Heaters

Over 600,000 recalled due to fire hazard

A.O Smith Recalls Residential Water Heaters

The US Consumer Product Safety commission just announced the appliance maker A.O. Smith has initiated a mass recall of 616,000 natural and propane gas-powered water heaters.  The recalled units may cause a fire in your home! These include Kenmore, Reliance, State, U.S. Craftsmaster and Whirlpool brand names.

The problem lies in the water heaters’ gas burner screens, which have been found to develop tears. This issue makes for an abundance of radiant heat, which, in turn, can cause a fire. This is particularly true in the cases of water heaters that have been installed on combustible or wood floors.

Currently, the recall includes all 30, 40, and 50-gallon natural or propane gas-fired Ultra-Low NOx emission gas water heaters.

To check if your water heater is involved in this recall, visit this site www.waterheaterrecall.com. Make sure to write down the serial number on your water heater. The site will ask you to enter the number to verify if your unit is being recalled.
