Avoid Throwing These Thanksgiving Foods Down The Garbage Disposal

Avoid Throwing These Thanksgiving Foods Down The Garbage Disposal

Thanksgiving is finally here and it’s almost time to start cooking for your guests. From the mouth-watering appetizers to the big bird and the succulent sides we can almost smell it. But before you sharpen your knives and get to work, it’s important to take a minute to remember which food items should NOT be thrown into the garbage disposal. Keep the list below in mind as you prepare this Thanksgiving:

  • Coffee grinds: starting off your big day with a cup of joe? Refrain from throwing the grinds down the disposal once your pot is finished brewing. It will cause a sludgy mess that can easily get stuck in the drain.

  • Grease: there’s no better way to start the day than with a hearty breakfast and what’s a breakfast without a few pieces of thick-cut bacon? We all know when there’s bacon, there’s grease and grease should never be thrown down the disposal. Even if you run hot water simultaneously, grease will harden as it cools which can cause major problems inside the pipes.

  • Rice and pasta: and anything else with a starchy consistency that can expand or become sticky when subject to water.

  • Bones: carving the turkey? Throw the bones in the trash can instead of the disposal. They can splinter if they come in contact with the sharp teeth.

If you find yourself stuck in a jam this Thanksgiving weekend, The Good Guys at Three Way Plumbing are here to get you out of it! Give us a call at 704-795-9349. Otherwise, we want to wish you a very happy holiday from our family to yours.
